Joy Shivas, MSW, LCSW, and former Assistant Trainer, has been a generous supporter of the Foundation for Self Leadership since 2019. Last year, she asked the IFS community to join her.
In May 2021, Joy committed $100,000 to the Fund for Self Leadership on the condition that the IFS community, collectively, match her gift.
And the community responded! As of February 28, 2022, the Foundation for Self Leadership received $129,760 from 167 new donors. In many cases, these contributors learned about the Foundation through recent outreach programs like A Bridge Between US and the Foundation Forum.
Joy Shivas studied in the US and began private practice in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in 1995. Joy now resides in Auckland, in her homeland of New Zealand.
Joy directed her gift to the Fund for Self Leadership as an example for others. This fund underwrites all the work of the Foundation: from funding and coordinating research studies and pilot programs, to nurturing the IFS community. “This challenge was not just about getting the funds. I also wanted to raise awareness about the great need for this kind of funding,” says Joy.
