A brief communiqué from your Foundation for Self Leadership

To build emotional resilience, day in and day out, simply by accessing our inner wisdom. This is the promise and power of Self-discovery...and the purpose of your Foundation.

Bringing IFS to Schools:
Next Steps

Fueled by the support from the IFS community, the Foundation is funding a second IFS-in-Schools project, building on the success of the Minneapolis Pilot Project led by Jody Nelson, EdD, LMFT. The new two-year project will be led by Joanna Curry-Sartori, LMFT, and Anna Tansi, MS Org Behavior. It will additionally (a) involve Tim Amaral; Seth Kopald, MEd, PhD; and Jody; and (b) receive counsel from an advisory team being assembled.

The three-tier objective is to
(1) develop and implement an IFS-oriented curricular framework for school teachers and staff;
(2) explore ways to integrate the notions of IFS across a full school/district in Connecticut, referred to at present as an IFS Lab School; and (3) establish and execute a robust evaluation design to examine program efficacy.

This project is highly consistent with the Foundation's priority to expand the presence and broaden the effects of the IFS paradigm for well-being in schools.

Funding is being made possible through the generosity of former IFS Assistant Trainer Joy Shivas, MSW, LCSW, BCD, by way of a Donor-Advised Fund entrusted into her care by her dear friend and mentor, the late entrepreneur Frederick Thomas. Her substantial contribution will fund 75% of the project costs, with the balance matched by donations gathered from the community.

Qualities of Self Leadership:
Making Global Connections

Three members of the Foundation's Board were in attendance at the fourth Spirit of Humanity Forum, held in Iceland at the end of May. Consistent with the mission of the Foundation, the theme of the Forum focused on achieving harmony in a world of difference.

A brief introductory IFS experience was hosted during a breakout session by Mark Milton, a founding member of the Forum's Executive Circle; Harley Goldberg, DO, Chair of the Board; and Toufic Hakim, PhD, Executive Director--all of whom individually covered their own travel and accommodation expenses. The workshop, which was well attended and received, featured two audio meditations by IFS Developer Dick Schwartz, PhD.

This was a meaningful opportunity for the Foundation to expand the visibility of IFS and help establish significant connections with leaders and sister organizations in the field of emotional health and well-being.

Around the same time, and to expand the Foundation's global connections further, two volunteer associates, Sharayah Morrissey, LMFT (Global Outreach) and Audrey Fernandez-Fraser, MDiv, LMSW (Social Media). attended a daylong workshop at the United Nations in New York City on the value of Emotional Intelligence in Achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Presenters included author Daniel Goleman and Assistant Secretary-General Bintou Keita.
