Gala 2013

At our first annual Gala, held during the 2013 IFS Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, the Foundation for Self Leadership was formerly launched.

Members of the new Foundation's Board of Directors were introduced and a number of volunteers who have supported the advancement of IFS and IFS research were recognized by the Foundation.

The Foundation is indebted to The Center for Self Leadership for its support in making the 2013 Gala a success through financial and logistical support. We especially acknowledge the efforts of Jon Schwartz, Executive Director; Ashley Curley, Conference Manager; and Mary Mitrovich, Controller.

2013 Awardees

Many have played significant roles in making the first 30 years quite productive and successful. Whether as trainers, members of the Speakers Bureau, writers, or therapists and practitioners, our work, as a community, has been much larger than the sum of our individual efforts. In 2013, the Foundation recognized the following individuals for their courage as they blazed new trails, their confidence that their efforts will make a tangible difference, and their unshaken commitment to advancing IFS research.

  • Awards of Distinction, given to Nancy Shadick, MD, MPH; and Nancy Sowell, LICSW, for having planned, persisted, and published the first IFS-based randomized clinical trial. Their pioneering work opened the gate toward making IFS an evidence-based practice. Shadick and Sowell were co-authors of a first research paper on the positive effects of IFS on reducing rheumatoid arthritis pain and depressive symptoms. Read the paper here.
  • Certificates of Recognition, given to John Livingstone, MD, FRSH; Martha Sweezy, PhD; Rob Hartz; and Nancy Sowell, LICSW; for their outstanding volunteering efforts, through which they have inspired and initiated the establishment of the IFS research priorities. These individuals served on an adhoc group that set the stage for a planning process leading to research committees and the start of the research activity.
  • The following individuals were recognized for their outstanding volunteer efforts in researching and producing the IFS Adherence Scale: Lois Ehrmann, PhD, LPC; Nancy Wonder, PhD; François Le Doze, MD; and Pam Krause.
  • A big Thank You from the Foundation to volunteer members of the research committees: John Livinsgtone, Rob Hartz, Saul Kerpelman, Jenn Matheson, Michael Mithoefer, Pam Krause, Ralph Cohen, Steve Krantz, Janet Weathers, Laura Crendall, Donna Kerpelman, Alane Daugherty, Nancy Shadick, François Le Doze, Frank Anderson, and Toufic Hakim.

Gala 2013 Attendees

There were 180 conference participants in attendance at the 2013 Gala. We consider them the Foundation's charter donors and are grateful for their support.
